Harford County Classroom Helper Sentenced in Sex Abuse Case

Amanda Miller is an inclusion helper at North Harford High School admitted to having sex with a a 15-year-old in February.

A North Harford High School special needs student helper who admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old student was sentenced in court on Monday. 

Amanda Miller, 35, of the 4500 block of Flintville Road in Whiteford, was charged by a grand jury with with two counts of third degree sex offense, according to a spokesman for the State's Attorney’s office.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Miller was sentenced to a five-year jail term, with all but one year suspended. On May 20, Miller pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sex offense. The other two counts were not prosecuted.

In February, Miller told investigators from the Harford County Child Advocacy Center, a unit that specializes in investigating mistreatment of children, that she had exchanged nude photos and had sex with a 15-year-old boy who was in tenth grade at the school where she teaches, according to charging documents.

Miller was an inclusion helper at North Harford. An inclusion helper works one-on-one or with small groups of students with special needs. 

The Baltimore Sun reported that Miller will serve most of her sentence on home detention, and will have to register as a sex offender.
