Harford Sheriff: Speeder Had 20 Bags of Crack

Deputies chased a Baltimore man in an Edgewood neighborhood Thursday morning after a traffic stop went awry, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.

A Baltimore man attempting to escape a traffic stop was chased down in Edgewood and allegedly found to be in possession of crack cocaine, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Reginald S. Artis, 34, of the 2500 block of Highland Street in Baltimore, also was charged with obstructing and hindering a police officer.

According to the sheriff's office, Artis was pulled over for driving a 2000 silver Mercury above the posted speed limit on Hanson Road at approximately 12:48 a.m. Thursday.

The deputy activated his lights and Artis pulled over near Hanson Road at Woodbridge Center Way, but as the officer approached the vehicle, Artis drove off, according to the report.

Sheriff's deputies located the suspect's vehicle on the 1600 block of Candlewood Court, then followed him on foot behind a row of townhomes, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

Deputies found 20 baggies of crack cocaine that Artis allegedly discarded while trying to elude police, according to the sheriff's office.

Artis is being held in the Harford County Detention Center with bail set at $50,000.
