Harford Teen Killed in Churchville Crash

The 19-year-old was reportedly close to home when she was killed on Route 136.

UPDATE (3 p.m.)—Churchville resident Elizabeth Anne Wald, 19, was killed Thursday morning less than a mile from her home, according to Maryland State Police.

Police said that Wald, 19, of the 200 block of Whitefield Court, was hit by a Ford truck on the driver's side of her Saturn when she failed to yield while making a left turn from Rolling Road onto MD Route 136 (Priestford Road).

At approximately 5:55 a.m. when officials responded to the crash, they found Wald's 2001 Saturn LS and a 1999 Ford F-450 resting against an electrical pole approximately 100 feet north of Rolling Road, according to a statement from Maryland State Police.

Police said that the driver of the truck, a Churchville man, was headed northbound at the time of the crash. He was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to Maryland State Police.

Wald was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:18 a.m. by Harford County paramedics, police said.

A man named Jeff Wald, who identified himself as the victim's uncle, described her as "beautiful" and "funny" in a Twitter post just before 10 a.m. Thursday, in which he asked for prayers for his family.

Route 136 was closed between MD Route 22 (Churchville Road) and Cool Spring Road for several hours Thursday morning as police investigated. Officials said Thursday afternoon that neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the crash.

sending prayers...
Harford at heart April 04, 2013 at 04:02 PM
Why is that everyone has to make a comment about texting and driving or Facebook and driving! Everyone is guilty of it at some point.... What matters is that this young girl has lost her life way to young. Instead of worrying about what she was doing wrong pray for the family!! My thoughts and prayers go out to this family and young girl!

^^I hate when people say that shit. "I hope they weren't doing this or that....blah blah blah". Shut up, you probably text and drive too. But then again you are probably one of those Harford County mothers who thinks her kids are perfect and turns a blind eye to everything. Prayers for her family and friends. Gone way too soon.

Took the words out of my mouth. No matter what or how a situation arises, a young person has LOST their life and their family is torn at this very moment. Stop, put yourself in those parents shoes and how would you feel at this very moment if that was your hold and that was being said.....Exactly!!!!! Thoughts and prayers to this girl's family !

Your comment should have stopped at "Praying for her family..." Someone died today and everyone who loves her will never be the same without her. Show some respect.
Terry April 04, 2013 at 04:55 PM
Even if it was driver error no need to armchair coach the reason! The family will grieve always for the loss of their loved one no matter what the reason!

Thank you to everyone who truly cares about Elizabeth and her family. Prayers are always welcome. Hug your loved ones, tell them you love them, forgive them for whatever grudges you hold. Life is short and don't leave it with any regrets.

As a parent that lost his daughter in a crash ( yes someone was texting when they hit her) I believe that we should let our law enforcement officers do their job of piecing together a cause of this tragedy. This family now bears as my family does a pain and sorrow that will follow them to their own graves. Speculation on this or other sites is cruel. In saying that I believe that in time the cause of this tragedy should be released in the media , whatever that may be. I am a strong advocate for education and awareness of the causes of traffic collisions so that we may avoid them in the future. Now is definitely NOT the time to talk about a cause. My family sends its thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased.

Praying for the family! While I didn't know the family personally I did know some people who were friends of hers! It's very sad that this happened to a young woman who had a long future ahead of her!! May she rest on peace!!!

My heart just breaks reading this story. I lost my son last year at age 24 (he died in a fire) and my life stopped on that day. Just stopped. I know what these parents are feeling today - I wish I didn't but sadly I do. I pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding. I pray that God will hold you up in his loving arms as you move forward thru this new journey. Rest in the care of your own personal angel in heaven. In honor of my son, Jonathan Paul Daily, who died on 3/1/12 - take good care of this precious girl, my son :)
