'Intense' Belcamp Fire Ravages Home, Injures Man

Investigators believe the fire started in the home's garage.

A Belcamp man was injured after a fire broke out his garage and spread through the house Thursday, fire officials said.

Around 5:54 p.m. a neighbor noticed a home in the 4300 block of Winners Run Circle in Belcamp was on fire, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

The neighbor alerted the two homeowners to the fast-moving fire allowing them to escape, the release states. One of the homeowners, however, sustained minor burn and smoke inhalation injuries in the fire, according to officials.

Two other residents were able to get out of the house through the basement, according to the release.

A firefighter from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company was treated at the scene for a minor eye injury, but refused to be transported to the hospital.

Deputy fire marshals believe the blaze started in the garage and accelerated after igniting a container filled with gasoline, the release states.

It is unclear what caused the fire, but investigators said they have not found any signs of arson.

The fire, described by officials as "intense," went to a second alarm and caused heat damage to houses on either side of the home where the fire started.

The fire caused an estimated $500,000 damage, according to the release.
