Joppa Truck Fire Causes $16K Damage

A pick-up truck caught fire while stuck in the mud in Joppa Sunday.

A pickup truck sustained more than $16,000 in damage after catching fire while it was stuck in the mud in Joppa.

Members of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were called to the 1100 block of Oak Avenue in Joppa around 5:47 p.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

When firefighters arrived, they found a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck and nearby ground cover on fire, the release states.

The truck's owner explained the truck got stuck in the mud and the bottom of the car caught fire as he tried to get it free, fire officials said.

Firefighters controlled the accidental blaze within minutes, but not before the fire caused about $16,500 damage to the truck, the release states.
