Joppa Woman Charged In Sexual Relationship With Teen

Police say the Joppa woman met a Florida teen through a video game.

A Joppa woman was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with an illegal sexual relationship with a 16-year-old Florida boy.

Lisa Elaine Carroll, 39, of the 500 block of Renee Drive in Joppa, was charged April 5 with nine counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of traveling to meet a minor, according to a release from Maryland State Police. She was arrested on a warrant from Florida.

According to the release, "while 16 is the age of consent in Maryland, it is unlawful for a 16-year-old in Florida to engage in a sexual relationship with anyone over the age 23."

During an interview with investigators from state police and the Harford County Child Advocacy Center, Carroll allegedly admitted to having a sexual relationship with the Florida boy, according to state police.

The charges stem from an alleged sexual relationship with a Florida teen Carroll met through a video game.

Carroll and the Florida teen met while playing the video game “War 2 Glory” and started communicating in late 2011, according to state police.

The relationship progressed through Skype, an online video chat service and ultimately to personal meetings with Carroll driving to Florida in early 2012 and again in March, according to the release.

Carroll and the teen became engaged to be married in December 2011, according to a release.
