Joppa Woman Dies After Accident Involving School Bus

No students were on board when a school bus and a passenger car collided on Route 7 in Abingdon on Feb. 7, but an 86-year-old Joppa woman who was trapped after the crash has since died.

An 86-year-old Joppa woman who was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the car she in which she was a passenger collided with a school bus has since died.

Marguerite D. Gude, 86, of Joppa passed away in the wake of a serious Feb. 7 crash that left her trapped inside her son's vehicle, according to Monica Worrell, public information officer with the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

There were no further details about the circumstances of Gude's death as of Saturday.

The accident that sent Gude to the hospital took place around 8:47 a.m. when a 2002 Ford Focus driven by Gude's son, 60-year-old Earl Justus Gude Jr. who shares an address with his mother, collided with a school bus, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The crash took place on Route 7, or Philadelphia Road, in the area of Mill Road. The bus was occupied only by the driver at the time of the accident.

The younger Gude refused medical treatment at the scene, but his mother had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown by Medevac Helicopter to shock trauma for treatment.

The bus driver, Terrese R. Diarisso, of Edgewood, was taken by Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

A preliminary police investigation indicated Earl Gude Jr. was responsible for the crash.
