Labor Day DUI Checkpoint Yields 4 Arrests

The Harford County Sheriff's Office conducted the checkpoint Saturday night and Sunday morning on Route 152 in Joppa.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Labor Day weekend sobriety checkpoint in Joppa resulted in four arrests.

Harford county deputies conducted the checkpoint during the late hours of Saturday night and into Sunday morning on Route 152 in Joppa, near the intersection of Stockton Road, according to a release.

The sheriff’s office said 387 vehicles drove through the checkpoint with nine being pulled off the line. Two people were arrested for DUI. An additional person was arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and another person was arrested for suspected DUI.

Other local jurisdictions conducted Labor Day weekend sobriety checkpoints. Additional multi-jurisdiction patrols resulted in five DUI arrests, 28 citations, and two equipment repair orders.

For the checkpoint in Joppa, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Locally, a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office funded the HCSO portion of the operations.
