Maryland Department of the Environment was also called in to investigate.

Maryland and Harford County officials were investigating an incident on the Gunpowder River Monday following a report of a gasoline smell in the Rumsey Island area of Joppa.

The source of the smell was a privately owned boat that was leaking fuel, according to the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, which responded to the call  at 4:16 p.m. along with the Harford County Hazmat Response Team.

Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company said it sent four fire trucks, 19 volunteer firefighters and an assistant volunteer chief to the scene, which was located on the Gunpowder River at the 200 block of Bridge Drive and 100 block of Breakwater Court.

The Maryland Department of the Environment's Emergency Response Team was called in, the fire company reported at approximately 5:15 p.m., at which time it said this was an "active incident."
