Lightning Strike Causes Bel Air Garage Fire

A flurry of fire-related calls came into Harford County emergency dispatch as storms passed through the area Thursday.

Storms rolled through Harford County Thursday, bringing with them heavy rain, thunder, lightning and fire reports, officials said.

One lightning-related fire inside a detached garage in Bel Air caused about $70,000 in damage Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:30 p.m., a fire broke out in a detached garage in the 300 block of South Fountain Green Road in Bel Air, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Investigators later determined the fire was caused by , the release states.

Fifteen firefighters from controlled the blaze within 15 minutes, but not before fire and smoke caused about $35,000 damage to the building and $35,000 damage to property inside it.

A series of fire calls were also reported in the Fountain Green area during the storms, according to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company's twitter feed.
