Lightning Strikes Bel Air Physical Therapy Business: Officials

Multiple crews reportedly responded to the attic fire off Route 22.

A business off Churchville Road was reportedly struck by lightning Thursday evening, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and neighboring crews responded to an attic fire at Gold Metal Physical Therapy in the 400 block of East Churchville Road, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association.

A lightning strike caused the fire, which was placed under control at 6:47 p.m., Gardiner said. There were multiple lightning-related calls across the county Thursday as a result of storms moving through the area, he added.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire on Churchville Road, according to GArdiner.

The blaze resulted in an estimated $10,000 to $15,000 in damage, he said.

In addition to lightning, the storms on Thursday doled out strong winds. Multiple trees in Hickory fell down, incidents which the National Weather Service said were reported around 5:40 p.m.
