Man Dies After Accident, Medical Issue Suspected Cause

A Street man died after an accident in the Benson, Bel Air area Monday evening.

A Street man died after an accident at Maryland Routes 1 and 147 Monday, but police believe a medical emergency and not the crash contributed to his death.

Around 7:30 p.m., Ronald Eugene Farley Jr., 29, of Street, MD, was operating a GMC pickup truck north on Maryland Route 1, Belair Road, and he pulled up to the intersection with Harford Road, or Maryland Route 147, according to Maryland State Police with the Bel Air Barrack.

As his truck passed through the intersection onto the Belair Bypass, the pickup suddenly accelerated, drifted into the slow lane, glanced the bumper of a tractor trailer and stopped after hitting a guardrail on the right side of the road, according to police.

Troopers and bystanders tried to resuscitate an unresponsive Farley at the scene. He was taken to where he was pronounced dead.

Both Farley's pickup and the tractor trailer suffered minor damage and police do not believe the crash contributed to his death.

The tractor trailer driver, Konan Julien Kouassi, 54, of Joppa, was not injured in the crash.

Witness statements and other evidence at the scene lead police to believe Farley suffered some kind of medical emergency before the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
