Man Robs Bel Air Tanning Salon

Aruba Sun & Spa was robbed Tuesday night by a man wearing a yellow bandanna across his face.

Police are looking for a man they say robbed a Bel Air tanning salon Tuesday night.

Around 8:45 p.m., Harford County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of a robbery at Aruba Sun & Spa, located at 225 F Brierhill Drive next to Italian Sensation in Bel Air.

An employee from the tanning salon told police a man with a yellow bandanna across his face walked into the store and demanded all the money out of the cash register, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

The employee handed the man the money drawer, and the man took an undisclosed amount of money out of it, then ran toward the Seasons of Bel Air apartments, the release states.

No one was injured and the robber did not show a weapon during the course of the robbery.

The robber is described as a thin, white man about 5' 7" to 5'10" tall and possibly in his twenties. In addition to the bandanna, he was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and grey sweat pants.

Police dogs searched the area, but found nothing. The robbery remains under investigation.

If there was no weapon brandished and he acted in a threatening manner, it is "Strong Armed Robbery."
Hazzard Native November 21, 2012 at 05:24 PM
I would have shot him.

Shit gets crazy around the holidays. Take extra precautions people!
JDK November 21, 2012 at 05:34 PM
They never should have allowed section 8 in those apartments. Ever since they did that area is horrible!
Haley November 21, 2012 at 05:46 PM
your comment is stupid and shouldnt even be worth the time of day
JDK November 21, 2012 at 06:00 PM
Really? Look up crime rates back before the section 8 came to town and look at them now. Facts don't lie.
Haley November 21, 2012 at 06:48 PM
Crime has increased because there is more people here. Nothing to do with section 8. I live at Seasons ( on section 8-- GASP!) and all hoodlums are either kids living in those town homes or people not on S8 and they have kids ages 13+ I
JDK November 21, 2012 at 06:58 PM
Again, really? The black boy who murdered Patrick lived in the apartments. The girl who threw her baby in the dumpster was visiting someone who lived in the apartments ( GASP ). The population did not increase that dramatically over the past 10 years and if it did why is the crime so heavy in that specific area? SECTION 8!!! Most people on that have a lazy mentality. I am not saying all people on it, but most. They steal, do drugs, and commit other horrendous crimes. Get over it, section 8 has that stigma and anyone who says it doesn't either lives in it or is denying it. If they brought section 8 anywhere close to my house I would move ASAP!!!

Most businesses follow the policy of just give it to them. It's not worth possibly getting hurt.

Who robs a tanning salon?
Jill Bracewell November 21, 2012 at 10:03 PM
This is way too close to home for me. What is going on in Bel Air lately? And be advised, I am NOT getting into a Section 8 debate, although I do think that anyone on Social Services, Medicaid, Food Stamps, or Section 8 should have mandatory drug testing....just sayin. I am sure that is going to piss alot of people off, but hey, it's only my opinion.
Carol November 21, 2012 at 11:58 PM
Some people can not help it because they live in Section 8 housing, I'm sure lots of them would like to have it better for themselves and their families so don't be so hard on them. I do agree tht drug testing should be done if they do not pass then they don't ge a check from our taxes. Now I'm changing the subject I think that money we are paying on our cell phone bills for all those free phones Obama gave people should be allowed to be a tax exempt for charity although I'd rather be giving my money to people I know that need it not just to the ones Obama wants to give free hand outs to. Do you all know we are paying I believe it is over a Billion dollars a year for those free phone and I've heard some say they had more then one....Its no wonder some people don't want to work way work when you can get it free on someone else taxes. Maybe thats why some people rob others because they don't make enough to pay everyones phone bills......just saying

Your comment is right on. Our community is 1/4 of a mile from there and most of the crime in our neighborhood is from thugs that live in the apartments. Everytime one of them gets caught, their address is in the apartments.
Bored November 22, 2012 at 12:30 AM
Sorry, but most of the crime in the area can be traced back to thugs living in the apartments. It is not to say that everyone living there is bad, but there are a lot of juvenile thugs living there who are up to no good when there one parent mom or dad is working. It's a fact. The crime stats support that fact.

Everytime there is a crime at that shopping center, there is never a get-a-way car. Why? Becuase the thug is always running accross Brier Hill Rd or Todd. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It is a very well known fact that for whatever reason, that immediate residential area has become home to Bel Air's highest concentration of folks who push the limits of the law. That doesn't mean everyone there is a "thug" or a slacker. I grew up in Baltimore City, but never took it PERSONALLY when folks accurately characterized the crime problems of the city.

I know. Really.

Good one!
Alden J. Farquahar III November 22, 2012 at 06:38 PM
Yeah, how much cash could they possibly have on hand? Maybe I just don't know the tanning clientele, but wouldn't most of them pay by credit card or check?

I remember when those apartments were first built -- I don't think any of us loved it when they went in, but the complex looked pretty nice, the people who lived there were just starting out, and initially things were pretty quiet. Honestly, over time there have been some serious changes to that community. This is not to mean that everyone who lives there is bad. Hardly. I think you can say the same thing for almost anywhere else, including Baltimore City, where there are many civic-minded citizens who themselves are victims of crime and want the thugs out. For me, I didn't realize at first that these apartments were such a problem, until I went into the Walgreens and saw a lot of the higher priced merchandise locked up. Police cars are a regular sighting at the apartments, and not by law enforcement personnel who live there. The area is starting to become a blight on our nearby communities and the folks that own and manage that complex should be held responsible. Don't be surprised, if in a few years to come, you see a satellite police station, like they put in Edgewood. I grew up in Harford County but it is hardly the place I fondly remember.

Jill, I partially agree with you but keep in mind that some of the people who receive Medicaid are very ill or disabled.
Jill Bracewell November 23, 2012 at 03:25 PM
Penelope, All I stated was that there should be mandatory drug testing for State Aid receivers. I did not attack or slander anyone who is disabled. I would never do that. Just want to make sure you understand my statement.
Matt November 23, 2012 at 05:48 PM
While I would love that too, it's been proven to be cost prohibitive with no noticeable effect, in several other states. Rather than drug testing, if you want to take the government's money, then you should be willing to do some sort of work for the government, for that money!
Carol November 23, 2012 at 08:05 PM
Penelope Patch, I'm so sorry I was not talking about those that are ill or disabled I'm talking about those that just don't want to work. There are a lot of people abusing the system those are the ones I'm talking about. Of course we have them abusing the system everywhere anymore. God Bless

Let's examine what you have just said. You are saying that because you work in a pharmacy you see people having legal prescriptions filled for pain killers as prescribed by a legally licensed Doctor and you object to this? And somehow you think that people who qualify for programs that provide them with subsidized drug purchases (the drug store and makers are still getting paid) that you think the State should deny coverage. My mother died after 2 years from a very aggressive form of cancer. I picked up the prescriptions which were originally morphine, but moved into dilaudid. Eventually the pain was so great the nerve bundle was severed so she could die pain free. You are suggesting that people in pain should not be treated. You should be very careful what you suggest. What you have said here, is bordering on, if not crossing the line, to being a prosecutable form of slander. I am sure that Harford County has nothing to do with the supply of legal narcotics in this county. Furthermore, legal narcotics typically do not add to a life of crime. I would suggest you watch or read the accounts of some of the drug addicts who live in The Netherlands, who are on maintenance with Morphine etc. They lead normal lives (other than having to inject their drugs) and as a result do not commit crimes or sink into slavery. The Netherlands has less problem with organized crime than the US largely for this reason. It's in the top 5 best nations to live in (USA is not).

Im sorry guys but I have to say something... I am no Obama fan but this whole cell phone thing you guys have been slinging around for the last year or so was actually instated by Bill Clinton. It was first done for home phones then moved to cell phones(technology in time). Same bill.... do your research. If I had time I would cite my sources. Maybe tomorrow. Just do yourself a favor and stop repeating what your buddies/family tell you. This whole phone assistance program started under Clinton! Not Obama.. I dont even like the guy but facts are facts!
Announomyus November 24, 2012 at 01:08 AM
pctech- you are allowed to have your opinion on the matter and I shall have mine. I could argue with you for hours about the subject but that would get us no where and we will never see eye to eye on it. But I will apologize to you personally if my opinion that I stated offended you I had no intentions of doing so for that I'm sorry.

The free phones started with the Regan administration it was called life line. It was intended for the poor and elderly that could not afford landlines so they could have 911 access. Over time it was extended to cell phones. The problem is the Govt. does not audit the program because we are paying for it in our cell bills. Hence, the program is out of control no oversight. Some of these thugs have over 20 of these phones and we are paying for it. When the checks come out on the first of the month the liquor stores and drug dealers are busy people. I agree people on govt assistance should be drug tested. I work at a inner city ER and I see how much of this money is spent on drugs and ETOH and the end results. To make matters worse they don't pay for the ER visit which raises the working persons insurance and medical bills. The current administration does not care these are the people who voted them in. Their answer is to tax the 53% who work until they are poor too.
Carol November 24, 2012 at 02:37 PM
Gary I agree with the tax part, then after we are to poor to pay for those that don't want to work who is going to foot their bills. The Country will go under the way THIS Government seems to want it to.
