Vehicle Hits Officer Directing Traffic in Bel Air

The officer was hit near Broadway and Nichols Street.

A Bel Air police officer was hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon, causing road closures near downtown, according to Harford County Fire & EMS spokesman Rich Gardiner.

The officer was struck in the area of Broadway and Nichols Street while directing traffic around the scene of an apartment fire, Gardiner said. The fire turned out to be a false alarm—food cooking on a stove—he said.

Streets in and around the scene were shut down, Gardiner reported at approximately 4 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., the roads in the area were clear.
