Abingdon Woman Killed in Two-Car Crash on Route 24

Five others transported to local hospital

UPDATED (Monday, 2:45 p.m.)—Maryland Route 24 near Singer Road was closed for approximately three hours Sunday while Maryland State police investigated a fatal two-car crash.

Mildred Waltersdorff, 84, of Abingdon was driving westbound on Singer Road in a 2005 P.T. Cruiser and was sitting at the traffic signal for Route 24 when she accelerated from the parked position and through the intersection, where she was struck by a 2005 Kia Sorento driven by Christopher Danko of Port Deposit, police said. Waltersdorff was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Maryland State police.

Five individuals in the Kia were transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, according to the release.
