Route 40 in Edgewood Reopens after Fatal Crash

The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Nov. 20, 2013—After nearly four hours, US Route 40 in Edgewood was cleared following a crash that left a Conowingo man dead.

Billy Joe Yingling, 38, of Conowingo, was pronounced dead at the scene on Pulaski Highway at West Shore Drive, according to WJZ.

A Bel Air resident driving a Mack truck had been waiting to make a left turn when Yingling—behind the wheel of a 2001 Chevrolet van—smashed into him, the Cecil Whig reported.

A third vehicle, a Ford pickup truck, crashed into Yingling's van, which flipped as a result. At least one person was trapped inside when the vehicle overturned on Route 40 near Sand Pebble Drive, according to Harford County Fire & EMS.

The two other drivers reportedly did not require medical treatment.

Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company advised steering clear of the area for the morning: "It would be a good idea to avoid US-40/Pulaski Hwy between 24 & 543 for several hours due to fatal crash at Sand Pebble Dr."

Eastbound lanes between Sand Pebble Drive and West Shore Drive were closed due to the crash, which occurred at 6:27 a.m., for several hours; Maryland Department of Transportation reported that by 10:20 a.m., all lanes were open.

Police told The Baltimore Sun that alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
