A 10-year-old girl was in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle in Edgewood Sunday afternoon, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

Just before 2 p.m., the fire company reported that eastbound Route 40 was shut down at Gateway Road because a pedestrian had been hit near Treetop Drive.

Maryland State Police said the victim and another girl were trying to cross Route 40 when they walked in front of traffic, The Aegis reported.

The girl who was struck was flown by a helicopter to a pediatric trauma center, Joppa-Magnolia reported.

The fire company said Maryland State Police was investigating the incident.

Please tell me why a 10 year old is on route 40?

Because it's Edgewood?

What should be questioned is if the little girl is ok. People have more negative thing to think about than the health of others. May good keep laying his hands on and healing my niece.

Melissa M., your comment shows your lack of intelligence, compassion or even a general understanding of life. Living in Edgewood has nothing to do with being struck by a car. I feel sorry for you, your parents failed.

If they had failed I would be living in Edgewood. Enough said.

My prayers go out to that little 10 year old and to her parents who allowed her to be wandering around and crossing a highway like that. I hope she's going to be fine.

Thanks Danial! I also hope she is okay. Hopefully we will get an update soon.

The question shouldn't be why was this 10 year old was trying to cross the street, but rather what can we do to make it safer for all members of our community to be able to move around our community without a car.

Healthy Harford you are exactly right. David Craig spent a lot of money a few years ago on the Beautification project...perhaps they created something useful instead?
