10-Year-Old Girl Hit on Route 40 in Edgewood

The girl was taken by helicopter for treatment and was in serious condition, officials said.

A 10-year-old girl was in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle in Edgewood Sunday afternoon, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

Just before 2 p.m., the fire company reported that eastbound Route 40 was shut down at Gateway Road because a pedestrian had been hit near Treetop Drive.

Maryland State Police said the victim and another girl were trying to cross Route 40 when they walked in front of traffic, The Aegis reported.

The girl who was struck was flown by a helicopter to a pediatric trauma center, Joppa-Magnolia reported.

The fire company said Maryland State Police was investigating the incident.
