Pedestrian Killed in Joppa Crash Tuesday

A man was hit while walking on Philadelphia Road/MD Route 7.

Philadelphia Road was closed for three hours Tuesday after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed in Joppa, according to Maryland State Police.

At 8 p.m. Monday, Jack Franklin Watson, 61, of Dundalk, was walking in the westbound lane of Philadelphia Road east of Route 152 when he was struck by a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle, Maryland State Police said.

Paramedics from Joppa-Magnolia Fire Company found Watson unresponsive, and he was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m., police said.

Philadelphia Road was closed until approximately 11 p.m. as police investigated the crash.

According to police, the area was not illuminated by street lights and Watson was wearing dark clothing.

Preliminarily, police said that Watson was under the influence of alcohol and speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Harford County State's Attorney's Office will determine whether charges will be filed, police said.
