According to preliminary investigation, police said that Ham had been driving a 2000 Nissan Frontier eastbound on Route 40/Pulaski Highway when for unknown reasons, he drove off the road, onto the shoulder, into a ditch and became airborne after hitting an embankment.

The vehicle hit a BGE pole on the passenger side then spun clockwise across Joppa Road, where it struck a curb and another BGE pole, according to police. The vehicle came to rest at the corner of Joppa Road and eastbound Route 40, police said.
