Pipe Bomb False Alarm in Bel Air

Maryland State Police investigated items that residents believed to be explosives.

A pair of residents transported to the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack what they believed may have been pipe bombs Tuesday night. An explosives expert from the Bomb Squad, however, determined that the "tubes" in question were not explosives.

At about 9 p.m., two people drove to to turn in a "camouflage bag ... that contained four tubes about two inches in diameter and five inches long that contained some type of powder," according to a release from Maryland State Police. There was also a "detonation cord" found with the tubes, the release stated.

One of the men who turned in the bag said they were put in his truck while he was "helping a friend remove items from her farm."
