Plumtree Road Vehicle Arson Under Investigation: Fire Marshal

The fire took 20 minutes to control, the fire marshal reported.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is seeking information about a vehicle arson on Plumtree Road, according to a statement the fire marshal issued Monday morning.

At 11:42 p.m. on Saturday, a neighbor discovered that a 2004 Ford Expedition SUV was on fire in the 600 block of Plumtree Road, the statement said.

Just as the owner of the vehicle, who lives in Baltimore County, reported it had been stolen from his Cockeysville residence earlier that night, crews in Harford County found the vehicle on Plumtree Road, Senior Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire said.

Eight firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded and brought the fire under control within 20 minutes, the fire marshal reported.

The fire marshal said the blaze was incendiary in nature, meaning it was intentionally set. The fire was traced to the interior passenger's compartment, according to the report.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office and Baltimore County Police Department are assisting with the investigation, the report said.

Anyone with information may contact the Bel Air office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-836-4844.
