Parkville Man Accused of Murder has Wednesday Court Date

An Aberdeen man was killed in a parking lot outside the Bel Air American Legion in July, 2010.

The Parkville man accused of shooting and killing an Aberdeen man outside the Bel Air American Legion more than a year ago is expected to be in court later this week after his trial was postponed, according online court records.

Rakim Raid Muhammad, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in November 2010 in connection with the July 2010 shooting death of Derrick Maxey Jr., of Aberdeen. Some court records also spell Muhammad's first name as Rakin.

Muhammad's jury trial was initially scheduled to begin today, but that proceeding was postponed and a plea hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday instead. The hearing is now scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday in .

Muhammad was featured last year on America's Most Wanted and after , police tracked him to a home in the 1100 block of Myrtle Avenue in Baltimore's Brooklyn neighborhood where they found him hiding in the basement.

Muhammad is charged with first- and second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and various gun charges.

Maxey was shot in the back of the head in a rear parking lot of the American Legion in the 100 block of N. Bond St., on July 18, 2010 after . A 15-year-old girl was also shot in the leg.
