Trial Postponed for Teen Charged in Rape Case

A new trial date has been scheduled for Aug. 14 for the Abingdon teenager.

 

The trial of was scheduled to begin Tuesday, but was postponed until August.

Jury selection was slated to begin Tuesday in the trial of Kyle Burnett Reddish, 16, of the 200 block of Kensington Parkway in Abingdon.

The trial was postponed until Aug. 14.

Reddish is charged with two counts of second-degree rape and six related charges in connection with the September 2011 sexual assault of a girl who was 14 years old at the time.

The charges stem from an alleged incident the night after Reddish kicked a .

While at the girl's house with a group of people, Reddish allegedly went up to the girl’s bedroom, undressed her and repeatedly forced her to perform sexual acts, the charging documents state.

The girl's sister had taken her up to bed after the girl had consumed a large amount of alcohol, according to charging documents.

Two days later, the girl's brother allegedly assaulted Reddish at school, Bill Blackford, Reddish's lawyer, told Patch at the time.

The brother was charged as a juvenile in connection with the alleged school assault.
