Report: Driver Cited in Collision with Bel Air Officer Directing Traffic
The town of Bel Air officer suffered serious injuries in the Wednesday afternoon collision.
A driver was issued several traffic citations in an incident in which a Bel Air police officer was struck by a car Wednesday while directing traffic, according to ABC 2 News.
A town of Bel Air police officer was directing traffic at the intersection at Williams and Nichols streets when she was struck, WJZ reported.
The officer was making way for fire trucks to respond to a kitchen fire reported in the 100 block of Nichols Street at 3:45 p.m. when she was hit by a black Passat with a "young driver" behind the wheel, The Aegis reported.
First responders took the officer to Bel Air High School, where a helicopter landed to take her for medical treatment, Rich Gardiner, spokesman for Harford County Fire & EMS told Bel Air Patch.
The officer, who had been on the town of Bel Air's police force for six years, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to ABC 2 News, which reported the driver was issued "several citations."
Gardiner said the officer's injuries were serious but not life-threatening, and the fire turned out to be a false alarm, triggered by food cooking on the stove.
