Sobriety Checkpoint Yields 4 Arrests in Bel Air

Operation "Checkpoint Strikeforce" led to the arrest of four suspected impaired drivers.

Bel Air Police arrested four suspected impaired drivers Thursday night and Friday morning as part of operation “Checkpoint Strikeforce,” which was put in place to crack down on drunk driving.

According to a release from the police department, checkpoints were conducted on eastbound Route 22 and Bynum Park from 11:01 p.m. on Thursday to 1:56 a.m. on Friday. Police said 328 vehicles were checked during the timeframe.

During the checkpoint, four motorists were pulled to the side for additional field sobriety testing, according to police. Of those pulled over, two were arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Additionally, three juveniles were charged with underage alcohol restrictions, and two were arrested for possessing a controlled substance.

Eleven troopers from the state police Bel Air Barrack, and eight officers from the Bel Air Police Department manned the checkpoint. Members of the Bel Air Fire Department also assisted.
