Staying Safe On The Spookiest Holiday

As trick or treat time approaches, Harford County government and law enforcement have tips for staying safe this Halloween.

Halloween is nearly here and parents and party-goers alike are scrambling to put the finishing touches on the perfect costume.

While collecting candy and looking cool are highlights of this haunted holiday, it's also important to stay safe.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office and Harford County Government are offering a number of safety tips for trick-or-treaters, parents, and anyone driving through town this Halloween.

The sheriff's office recommends trick-or-treaters stay in well lit places, visit only homes of people you know, carry a flashlight, check candy and never go alone.

Safety is not just for trick-or-treaters. The county urges anyone driving on Halloween to be on the lookout for kids especially in the street, on sidewalks and in parking lots.

"Many of the costumes children wear are dark and difficult to see, be sure to have your headlights on," the county website states.

For more safety tips check out the county's website.

The county recommends trick-or-treating at the following times:

  • 5-8 p.m. in the City of Aberdeen
  • 5-8 p.m. in the Town of Bel Air
  • 6-8 p.m. in the City of Havre de Grace and
  • 6-8 p.m. in all other parts of the county

If you're getting dressed up this Halloween be sure to upload your photo to the Patch costume contest for a chance to win $5,000.
