Conowingo Dam Investigation Involves Havre de Grace Man

Police are not yet identifying the 56-year-old man.

The investigation into a possible suicide Wednesday night at the Conowingo Dam centers around a 56-year-old man missing from Havre de Grace, according to Maryland State Police.

In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, Maryland State Police said that the man is not being identified as he is still missing and the investigation is ongoing.

A passing motorist alerted officials before 7 p.m. Wednesday that a vehicle was abandoned on US Route 1 at the Conowingo Dam, Maryland State Police said.

The vehicle, registered to a man and wife in Havre de Grace, was found with its hazard lights flashing and the engine running south of MD Route 222, police said.

When troopers contacted the Havre de Grace Police Department for information about the registered owners, they learned that officers from Havre de Grace were at the couple's home taking a missing person's report from the wife, the statement said.

The woman told Havre de Grace police that her husband was suicidal and had left a suicide note at their home, Maryland State Police reported.

On Jan. 2, Maryland State Police alerted multiple agencies which responded to the Conowingo Dam for investigation into a possible suicide.

Swift water rescue experts, Natural Resources Police and a Delaware State Police helicopter searched extensively but did not find the man.

Darkness, weather conditions and rocky terrain prevented the search from continuing until this morning, according to the statement from Maryland State Police.

Police said they continued the search Thursday but had not located the missing man as of 2 p.m.

Troopers have not yet confirmed that the husband was driving the vehicle Wednesday and said the man is still considered missing.

Says they cant confirm the missing man was in the car found running ,well did the wife report if her husband left in their vehicle or was it stolen? Looks like if he left a suicide note and now he's missing and his car was found at the bridge running …he did something? Very sad thou, Suicidal people just reach out for help, the help is out there!!! Hopefully he is found ALIVE!!

Why is it taking so long to identify a missing person for which the family says he died on Jan 2 and there gonna be a benefit held to raise money for his family which they say is missing but family says he died that day. Very confusing this story has been.
