The accident that claimed the young man's life took place shortly after 1 a.m. as Thompson traveled northbound on U.S. Route 1 in a 1999 Acura 2.3 CL.

When he was near the 3000 block of Conowingo Road when Thompson "failed to maintain control" of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole adjacent to the southbound lane, just north of Sandy Hook Road, Maryland State Police said at the time.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police told Explore Harford they believed speed may have contributed to the crash.

Thompson was the second 2010 North Harford High School graduate and Harford Community College student to die in a traffic accident in a two-month span.

Friends started a "Rest In Peace Adam Thompson" Facebook page the day he died, which had 747 "likes" as of Friday morning.
