The next phase of the Bel Air Reckord Armory is on its way, thanks to a grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

According to the state, the $150,000 grant will go toward converting cinderblock garages behind the armory into a commercial incubator.

This is the third phase of the armory's improvement project, entailing interior and exterior build-out, according to the Department of Housing and Community Development.

The 1950s-era cinderblock garages behind the armory will be turned into the "Armory Marketplace," an incubator facility for retail and commercial space, with the grant from the Maryland Community Legacy program.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development reported Tuesday that it was granting $5.5 million toward local projects through its Community Legacy program this year. The program funds projects that will promote commercial revitalization and business retention.
