Bel Air Residents Aiming for County Offices

Tuesday's primary election ballot is filled with names from the town.

A number of Bel Air residents are vying for votes in Tuesday's primary election.

Among the positions up for grabs are county executive, County Council president, County Council in Districts A through F, state's attorney, register of wills, sheriff, Democratic Central Committee Female and Male, Republican Central Committee and the Board of Education in the A, B and D council districts.

Incumbent County Executive David Craig faces Robert Wagner in the Republican primary for Craig's position. The winner will face Mark Fisher, of the Constitution Party, in the general election.

Billy Boniface, a Republican from Darlington, is unopposed to retain his seat as president of the County Council.

In the race for the County Council's District C, which covers Bel Air, Democrat Jack Feldman is unopposed in the primary. He will face the winner of the Republican primary between Bel Air Town Commissioner Terence Hanley and incumbent Councilman James McMahan.

Incumbent Republican Richard Slutzky is unopposed in District E, which serves Aberdeen, Churchville and Fountain Green.

In District B, Republican incumbent Joe Woods of Fallston faces Derek Howell in their party's primary. There is Democratic primary in that race. Republicans Todd Paterniti and Chad Shrodes have a similar battle in District D, where no Democrats are running in the North Harford region.

John Henkel and incumbent Dion Guthrie will square off in District A's primary battle and face the winner of the Republican duel between Yvonne Baldwin and James Thompson. This district serves Edgewood, Joppa, Joppatowne, Magnolia and part of Winter's Run.

Mary Ann Lisanti, the Democratic incumbent serving District F, which represents Havre de Grace, Abingdon, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Perryman and Belcamp, will face Republican Sheryl Davis Kohl in the general election.

Republican and Bel Air resident Joseph I. Cassily is unopposed in the election for state's attorney.

Bel Air candidates for register of wills include Democrat Tom Hopkins and Republicans Merrie Street and Robert Preston, who is also a town commissioner. Hopkins will face Joe Gamatoria in the Democratic primary. For the Republican nomination, Preston and Street are battling Michael Birch, Bill Schilling and Derek Hopkins, who is not related to Tom.

The four Republicans challenging Democratic incumbent Jesse Bane for sheriff are Bel Air's Jeffrey Gahler and Roger Sheets as well as Stephen Bodway of Belcamp and Jack Meckley of Forest Hill.

Democratic Central Committee Female candidates from Bel Air are Cassandra Beverley, Bethany Dinger, Kim McCarthy and Parissa Snider. Conversely, the only Bel Air candidate for Democratic Central Committee Male is Jeff Dinger.

Several candidates are seeking a spot on the Republican Central Committee: Lori Brown, Scott DeLong, Timothy Impallaria, Gregory Johnson, Dave Price, Larry Stancill, Mike Stephens, Kim Wagner, J. W. Walker, Jim Welch and Brian Young.

The only Bel Air candidate for the Board of Education in District B is Cassandra Beverley, who is also running for Democratic Central Committee Female.
