Bob Cassilly Files To Run For Jacobs' State Senate Seat

The former Harford County Councilman will run for the State Senate seat currently held by Nancy Jacobs, who plans to retire at the end of her term.

Former Harford County Councilman Bob Cassilly has filed to run for the senate seat in District 34, currently held by the outgoing Nancy Jacobs.

After stints as a Bel Air Town Commissioner and mayor, Cassilly served on the county council until 2006, when he was called into active duty as an Army Major in Iraq, according to a news release.

After three year-long tours in Iraq, helping to establish a government in Tikrit, Cassilly returned home to assist the U.S. State Department until August, the statement read. This month, he returned to his law practice in Harford County.

Cassilly and his wife, Debbie, are Bel Air residents.

In a statement announcing his intentions, Cassilly thanked Jacobs, who has announced her plans to retire at the end of her term.

Cassilly, a Republican, filed on Sept. 12. The only other candidate to have filed to run for the seat is a fellow Republican—Derek J. Howell, of Abingdon, filed on Aug. 5.
