Harford County Officials: Prepare for Heavy Rains, Power Outages

Harford County officials expect high winds in the storms expected to begin Wednesday evening.

Harford County is under a flash flood watch starting at midnight Thursday and officials urge residents to get ready for high winds and heavy rains.

The rain is expected to start Wednesday evening and continue through Thursday evening. Forecasters say the storm could be a derecho similar to the storm that impacted much of the Baltimore area last year. The National Weather Service is also warning of possible tornadoes that could be caused by the storm.

County officials urge residents to stock up on food, water and supplies in the event power goes out. In addition, officials ask homeowners to prepare their yards, removing or securing items that could blow away and damage property. Outside oil and fuel tanks should be anchored to prevent them from floating away in flood waters, according to a release from the county.
