Harford County Council Returns To 'Black Box'

Harford County Council is moving back into its official headquarters approximately two years after it originally closed for structural concerns.

It took them just eight hours to scramble out.

Two years later, the Harford County Council and its staff will take three days to move back into offices at the "Black Box" building at 212 South Bond Street.

"It’s been a long two years," Council President Billy Boniface said Tuesday.

Council offices will be located on the second floor of the building, sharing the location with the Department of Public Works.

The second floor holds 33 work places, a large 14-seat conference room, public meeting room with seats for eight and a multi-purpose room.

The work places include flex space for the People's Counsel, various boards and committees, and the Harford Cable Network.

Files are among the final items to be moved from various storage locations.

Council's work space is being re-located rom 18 Office Street—which served as a temporary facility during the closure.

"On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank Vice-President Richard Slutzky, Council Administrator Pamela Meister, and Chief of Facilities Tim Myers, for facilitating this move and a smooth transition from our temporary facility back into the black box," Boniface said in a statement.

The property was deemed safe for occupancy in July 2011 after an emergency closure on Jan. 3, 2011.

Boniface said the bulk of the moving would be completed on Thursday.
