Harford County Parks and Recreation To Update Master Plan

The county is seeking input and project proposals from community members.

The Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation is updating its Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan, and they want your input.

The state of Maryland requires the county to update its plan every six years to continue receiving money from Program Open Space, a major source of funding for park development.

“The first step in our process is to hear from our citizens, particularly about facilities and programs they support or ones they recommend we expand, as well as proposals for new facilities and programs,” department Director Arden McClune said in the release.

To gather public input, the Department of Parks and Recreation has created an online survey

The department is scheduled to host a public meeting Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. for Harford County residents to share their opinions. The meeting will take place at the McFaul Activities Center located at 525 W. MacPhail Road in Bel Air.

The county plans to combine feedback from the survey and public meeting, in addition to census and population data to draft an updated Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation plan, the release said.

The last update to the plan occurred in 2005, when Harford County purchased 383 acres to develop new parks and senior centers in Havre de Grace and Fallston, the release stated.
