Harford Tourism Manager Named To State Board

Harford's Winifred "Wini" Roche will serve on the Maryland Tourism Development Board.

Harford County Tourism Manager Wini Roche has been appointed to the Maryland Tourism Development Board.

According to a statement from Harford County Government, Roche was one of four appointments by Gov. Martin O'Malley Monday.

"I’m honored to serve and promote our great state on the Maryland Tourism Development  Board," Roche said in a statement. "With so many wonderful experiences to offer, tourism is truly a bright spot in Maryland’s economy."

Roche has 18 years of experience in local tourism, according to the statement. She will serve a three-year term, representing the Maryland Destination Marketing Organizations.

The Tourism Development Board guides the activities that promote Maryland as a destination, the statement said.

Roche cited the most recent state-wide event as an example, saying: "I hope to bring more grass roots advocacy to the table. We need only to look at the impact of a successful state-promoted event such as the Star-Spangled Sailabration to realize the local impact in our hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. Tourism sustains small businesses and jobs in every Maryland County—let’s spread the word."

Congratulations Wini! I'm sure you will continue your valuable promotional efforts at the State level just as you do for Harford County and did for Havre de Grace in the past as its first Tourism Manager. We are indeed lucky in Havre de Grace to have two people doing a great job for tourism. Brigitte Peters, recognized as "Hospitality Person of the Year" by the MD Tourism Council and current Manager of Tourism for the destination of Havre de Grace and Wini, promoting Harford County as its tourism manager. As the Chair of the Havre de Grace Tourism Advisory Board and being involved in promoting Havre de Grace and Harford County it is gratifying to see two of our very own ascend to their respective heights of success! I wish you much success, Wini, in your efforts at the State level and look forward to continuing to work with you!

We are glad to see that Winifred's professionalism and success, both in her tourism promotions and her push for an inevitable and necessary hotel tourism tax, have been recognized by the governor of Maryland. We are so fortunate that she will continue to promote her county and place of residence, Havre de Grace, MD, through her work and in Annapolis. Wini is the pro's pro!
