Harford Wage Gains Rank High; O'Malley Eyes More Jobs

Harford County workers saw an increase in pay last year, while Gov. Martin O'Malley lays out one option for more jobs in the area.

The statistics indicate Harford County workers saw healthy increases in pay wages in 2011.

And Gov. Martin O'Malley sees room for improvement.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Harford County ranks among the top 25 municipalities nationwide in wage increases.

The information posted on the Department of Labor website also stated: "Harford County recorded the fastest over-the-year wage growth among Maryland’s eight large counties and the third-fastest nationwide, rising 8.8 percent from the second quarter of 2010 to the second quarter of 2011."

Among a series of blog entries on the topic Wednesday, O'Malley suggested "BRAC-related safety and capacity improvements" as a "real project that would create jobs" in Harford County.

As for Cecil County, O'Malley recommended that jobs would be created by extending "the MARC Penn Line from to Elkton to Newark and Wilmington, DE."

Harford County jobs have gotten a boost from the influx of new workers and residents as part of the movement. The , but more employees of Aberdeen Proving Ground are anticipated in the next year or so.

O'Malley's suggestion for capacity improvements likely points to the theory that in the near future.

8.8%!! *checks pay stub* *checks husband's paystub* Someone's math skills are waaaay off! And I work off Rt 22. I try to avoid it at all costs at certain times of day. It's ridiculous!

The Governor is counting the high paying civilian jobs that were transferred into APG that skew the numbers to make it look good. Local people are constantly being told no raises that's assuming they can hold onto the jobs they have.

Is anyone really surprised by the B.S. the governor keeps spouting? Everyone I know here in Harford County keeps complaining about no pay raises. Who has gotten the pay raises the gov is talking about?

Exactly right. Sort of like the way he took the Ferderal Stimulus and used it to balance the budget!!

Probably the Gov himself. I don't know anyone in Harford Co that has gotten more than a 4 % increase in years. That doesn't even cover the cost of living increase. Much less the rising cost of gas,graceries, insurance, property taxes, every day consumables , etc............ Where do the politicians get their info from. Complete B.S.
