In downtown Bel Air, you can see a hero every few feet.
And no, it isn't just a catch-phrase.
Since Veterans Day, banners highlighting "hometown heroes" have been on display on poles along Main Street.
The 2011 Hometown Hero Banner Program was started by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance in observance of the 100th anniversary of . Each banner honors a man or woman from Harford County who has served in the military.
The 29 banners were sponsored for $200 each. The money went toward supporting the Bel Air Downtown Alliance, Bel Air Veterans Day Parade and .
Scott Walker, executive director of , said that as of last week, about $1,500 had been raised for Toys for Tots and the Historical Society through the program.
