Hopkins, Hanley Vow to Run Again; Reier Undecided

Terms of three of Bel Air's commissioners expire this fall.

Two of the three  commissioners, whose terms expire this fall, say they will seek seek reelection. The third is undecided.

“I want to run again and my intent right now is to run again,” said Edward Hopkins, who was elected to his first term in 2007. “I really enjoy this. This is really where government meets the road.”

Terence Hanley, who was elected in 2003 and 2007, also plans to seek reelection.

“Absolutely,” Hanley said. “I got a lot going on right now, but yes.”

Hanley also said he would run for in 2014.

“You know I don’t quit,” said Hanley, who to in September. Hanley would need to step down as town commissioner if elected to both positions simultaneously.

Robert Reier said he is still weighing his options.

“I really … have been humbled and honored serving the citizens of the town,” Reier said. “I just want to sit down and make an informed decision.”

The Board of Commissioners is made up of five members who are elected to four-year terms. The terms are staggered with elections in November of odd-numbered years.

Any registered voter of the Town of Bel Air who would like to file as a candidate for commissioner must be a registered voter and a resident of Bel Air for at least six months before the election. The deadline to file as a candidate is Oct. 7.
