Moores Mill Road Reopens Ahead of Schedule

The road had been closed for several months due to reconstruction.

Moores Mill Road reopened months ahead of schedule recently.

"A lot of things went well," Thomas Pistel, Harford County's chief of the Bureau of Construction Inspections, said. "The weather was pretty good, and we had a really good contractor."

Work was completed months ahead of projections, which called for completion in April.

The stretch of Moores Mill Road between Conowingo and Southhampton roads had been closed since June for reconstruction work including resurfacing; paving; widening; leveling; curb, gutter and sidewalk installation; driveway tie-ins; drainage, erosion and sediment control; and landscaping.

The closure expedited things, according to Pistel.

"The fact that the road was closed—even though there was quite a bit of traffic with the school and daycare center—cut down on the traffic," he said.

The roadway reopened at the close of business on Nov. 21, according to Harford County's Department of Public Works.

"The Department of Public Works would like to thank the public, and especially the residents along Moores Mill Road, for their cooperation during this reconstruction project," the department posted on its Facebook page. In addition, it applauded Comer Construction for its participation in the project.

"They worked a lot of hours," Pistel said of the contractors. "Most days, they worked 10 hours or more, plus they worked almost every Saturday. When problems came up, there was a lot of cooperation with the contractor and the county, so we could resolve them quickly and move forward," he added.

"We were very happy with the outcome of that job," Pistel said. "They don’t all go that way."
