Bel Air Mural Draws Painter Back Home

Artist Marshall Adams is painting the side of the municipal building on Main Street.

A mural is currently underway at the Harford County Sheriff's Office in Bel Air.

For the past two weeks, local mural painter Marshall Adams has been adding some color to the side of the building at 45 S. Main St.

When complete, it will illustrate changes to the sheriff's office over the years.

The removal of BB&T Bank opened the space around the sheriff's office to include parking, a walkway and small garden, Bel Air officials said at the Oct. 1 town meeting where they approved the project.

The mural will cost $9,000, according to The AegisWork was to begin last fall but was delayed by the need for modifications and cleanup around the building, according to officials.

For Adams, whose work is also on display at Dark Horse Saloon, the project is a homecoming of sorts.

"I grew up in Harford County and used to attend after school art classes a few blocks away on Main Street as a child," Adams said.

"I've been painting murals since 2005, and I currently have about 350 total, all over America," Adams continued. "This is most likely the largest mural commission of my career and also the most sentimental, being on Main Street in my hometown!"

Adams said he anticipates the mural in Bel Air will be complete by the end of April.
