Public Art Display of Bel Air Motto Planned

Mascot-style statues could soon grace the streets of Bel Air.

The is looking to wear its heart on its sleeve—or rather its sidewalks.

The town, known as the "," could soon host sculptures representing the motto, according to a story on ExploreHarford.com.

The Design Committee of the Bel Air Downtown Alliance plans to install 4-foot by 4.5-foot fiberglass heart-shaped statues at notable sites around town, the story says.

In a , contributor Amber Woods wrote about public art displays of mascots in other municipalities.

"Think of the life-sized painted elks seen throughout Elkton in Cecil County. Or how about the colorful crab sculptures strategically placed throughout Baltimore City," Woods wrote.

This is just the idea Bel Air officials want to replicate.

Adrienne DeRan, a local sculptor, has been commissioned to make the blank hearts. Artists from throughout the state will be welcome to submit proposals for paint designs, which will them be reviewed by DeRan, members of the Downtown Alliance, local artists and citizens, according to ExploreHarford.com.
