Could Historic Home off Tollgate Road be Demolished?

The property may be sold to a residential developer.

A home off Tollgate Road that is centuries old may be headed for demolition.

The Joesting-Gorsuch House is slated to be sold by Winters Run Golf Club to developers who plan to build five homes there, according to The Aegis, which reported it was previously used as the pro shop and a residence for the golf course superintendent.

The property is located on the west side of Tollgate Road approximately one mile north of US Route 1/Belair Road, according to the Maryland Historical Trust, which maintains a record of historic properties.

Built in the 18th century, the home had no special historic event tied to it but was of interest for its social/humanitarian value, according to the trust, which said that the building's architecture was worth exploring.

However, what the trust said was a home built in approximately 1730 is now a deteriorating building.

A representative from Winters Run Golf Club told The Aegis that selling the 10-acre parcel and the property, which is in a state of disrepair, would help pay off debt service and fund capital improvements so members wouldn't have to shoulder the cost.
