Bel Air Fire Company Trains with Arena Club

BAVFC members "jump in" at the Arena Club for training.

On July 10 the , held their weekly drill night at the . The purpose of this training session was to educate its personnel on pool emergencies and learned techniques to stabilize a patient in the water.

Chris Fielder, CPRP, CPO recreation and special events director at the Arena Club divided personnel into small teams. Each group, with assistance from lifeguards Grant Honecke, Jess Leilichwere, and Josh McGill (a BAVFC member), were taught techniques on how to provide proper spinal immobilization and correctly backboard and remove a patient from the pool. Thirty BAVFC personnel spent approximately two hours in the pool reviewing and practicing these techniques.

The BAVFC would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Arena Club for the use of their facilities. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and excited to help with the training. BAVFC Sgt. Tony Petralia who helped set up the drill stated, “We hope never to use what we learned but our personnel left that night confident they now have the skills to get the job safely and correctly if the need arises.”
