CPR Saves Lives

CPR Saves Two Local Lives

Today's blog post is all about two local incidents that had a positive outcome as a result of quick citizen action.

Within the past two weeks Harford County fire and EMS personnel responded to two separate calls for an unconscious person not breathing; also known as a cardiac arrest. The first incident was located at the PNC Bank on Whiteford Road for a report of a person collapsed inside. The second was in Darlington for a six year old girl who was found in a friends swimming pool. What is common about both incidents is that bystanders took charge and initiated CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. The end result was both people survived to go home to their family.

Did you know that less than 1/3 of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR? Did you also know that effective and properly applied CPR can double or triple the chances of patient survival? If you have not taken the time to attend a CPR class I urge you to go. It only takes a few hours of your day and can be taken at a variety of places across Harford County. It can literally make the difference between life and death for a friend, neighbor or loved one. Take your entire family. The American Heart Association says that children as young as 9 years of age can retain the skills learned in class.
