Boys' Lacrosse: Bel Air Edges Dulaney 12-10 (PHOTOS)

The Bobcats advance to the regional finals.

Bel Air High School boys lacrosse has earned a place in the regional finals following a 12-10, hard fought victory at Monday night.

The Bobcats will go on to face Howard High School on Wednesday in Howard County.

“I knew coming in it would be a battle,” said Bel Air head coach Scoop Kelly.
Bel Air lost to Dulaney earlier in the season by a slim 6-5 margin.

“I guess it’s sort of ironic that we finished today 12-10 ... and luckily this time we move ahead in the playoffs,” Kelly said. “We caught the ball a little better. We finished [well]. In general our legs were there and we were a little more hungry than that first game of the year.”

Three quick goals at the opening of the match put Dulaney in the hole for most of the game, as the Lions struggled to bring the score back level.

Three quick goals by Bel Air junior midfielder Tom Hollenback from the face-off set the tempo for the regional semi-finals.

“If you can win that draw and control the ball, especially when it gets us quick goals it makes the difference,” Scoop said.

Bel Air’s freshman goalie Gavin Hanley did well to keep the Lions just out of reach of tying the game.

“He has some big shoes to fill and he’s lead us to where were 10-5 and moving on to the regional finals,” Scoop said.

Dulaney kept pace with the Bobcats throughout the match. Two quick two-goal series gave life to a Dulaney side that trailed for the entire game.

“I think we showed heart the whole the game. We showed effort the whole game. It wasn’t just spurts. We played a good team,” said head coach Kyle Fiat.

“I don’t think that it was the best game that we’ve played all year and that’s frustrating. But at this point in the season, you have to do your best to go on and unfortunately we didn’t quite do that today.”

The Lions’ season ends with a 12-5 record.
