HCC Hosting Half of Harford's High School Graduations

Five of the county's ten high schools will hold ceremonies at Harford Community College's new arena.

In its first year open, Harford Community College's new APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) Arena will welcome thousands of students and their families for graduation.

Harford County has selected the venue for five of its ten high school graduations: C. Milton Wright, Fallston, Joppatowne, North Harford and Patterson Mill.

Harford County previously held some graduation ceremonies in Towson, which was a point of contention as schools wanted to keep the business of graduation in the county, The Aegis reported, noting that small auditoriums posed space constraints.

The APGFCU Arena at Harford Community College is the largest venue in the area, according to the college, containing 19,000 square feet and 3,200 seats.

It opened in November after a $26.7 million project that involved extensive expansion and renovation of the old Susquehanna Center on campus. The arena is home to the men's and women's basketball teams plus the college's volleyball team.

"While its renovation and addition are a tremendous benefit for our students, the greater community will find the newly renovated arena to be the centerpiece gathering area for Northeastern Maryland," Dennis Golladay, Ph.D., president of Harford Community College, said during construction.

After all, Golladay told WBAL: "Community is our middle name."
