HCC Happenings: Joppa Gallery Named Best in Harford County, Men's Tennis Wins Harford Invitational Title

HCC's Joppa Gallery was recently named No. 1 in Harford County by the readers of Harford Magazine, the Actors Guild will be performing Shakespeare's delightful comedy Twelfth Night, and the men's tennis program claims Harford Invitational Tounament title.

News:

The Student Art Gallery Association of allows student artists to showcase their work. Each week a different collection of art—ranging from paintings to photography to sculptures—is put on display in the Joppa Gallery, where receptions are also held. As part of their Best of Harford issue, Harford Magazine recently named the Joppa Gallery as the best art gallery in the county based on the results of a readers poll.

SAGA President Azman Toy states, "The recognition SAGA has attained is such an honor and reveals the level of work being made by HCC art students. The club gives students the chance to interact with other students who hold similar interests, as well as giving them the opportunity to show their work in the Joppa Gallery."

Who: Actors Guild of Harford Community College

What: Ryan Clark will direct the Actors Guild in Shakespeare’s hilarious classic Twelfth Night, a story in which a “shipwreck separates a twin brother and sister, and results in an evening of capricious comedy.”

Where: Chesapeake Theater

When: Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 3 p.m.

How: General admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and staff with valid HCC ID.

Owl Update:

Baseball:  The Harford baseball team (24-8, 9-4) lost a 10-2 contest to  Catonsville on April 6.

Softball: Harford's softball team (8-13, 4-6) also dropped two games in a conference road doubleheader at Chesapeake on April 6, 17-0 and 8-0.

Men's tennis: For the first time in the ten year history of the event, the Harford men's tennis program won the Harford Invitational Tournament title last weekend. See the 2011 Final Standings here.
