The superintendent of Maryland schools will visit Bel Air kindergarteners this week for a special story time.

As part of the "Read Across Maryland" celebration, Superintendent Lillian Lowery will read to students at Emmorton Elementary School on Friday.

"Read Across Maryland" is a statewide initiative that encourages students to read by setting aside 30 minutes a day to do it.

Using the slogan "Thirty Minutes for Thirty Days," the campaign offers a Read Across Maryland reading log for students and library patrons so they can record their progress and upload their log to the Read Across Maryland website. Those who enter their logs are eligible to win a free Kindle Fire.
