O'Malley Appoints 2 New Members to Harford County Board of Education

One of the selections is a former principal at Bel Air Middle School.

Nancy Reynolds and Joseph A. Hau were appointed to the by Gov. Martin O'Malley on Friday.

“I am proud to announce the appointments of Nancy Reynolds [and] Joseph A. Hau,” O’Malley said in a statement. “I am confident that each member has the talents, skills and leadership necessary to ensure every child in Harford [County] receives the quality public education they deserve. Together, with their dedication, we can build on the progress we’ve made for our number one public schools."

President and member Donald Osman are expected to leave the board this year.

Reynolds has served as a principal, assistant principal and reading specialist in Harford County schools since 1977. For the past three years, she has been a principal mentor and service learning facilitator. She was recognized as a Distinguished Principal from 2002 through 2008 and was principal of when it was honored as both a state and national Blue Ribbon School. She graduated from Marietta College in Ohio before earning an administration and supervision certification from Loyola (MD) College and a master's degree from Towson University.

Hau is the owner, vice president and CFO of the Chesapeake Environmental Management Inc. The firm won the 2009 Harford Award that is presented by the Harford County Office of Economic Development, Harford County Chamber of Commerce and and was recognized as a Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise corporations in 2006, 2008 and 2010. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and earned his master's degree in geology from Kent State University. He has children enrolled in Harford County Public Schools, according to the release.
