Saint Margaret School Competing For $50K

The private school located in downtown Bel Air needs the community's help to win a contest and take home the $50,000 grand prize.

You can help St. Margaret School in Bel Air shine a little brighter with a few clicks on your phone or keyboard.

St. Margaret School, 141 N. Hickory Avenue, is in the midst of fierce competition, striving to earn the most votes in the Clorox Power A Bright Future contest.

The private school is the only one in Harford County to make it past the national nomination period to become a finalist, Kim Sanschagrin wrote in a message to Patch.

The school with the most votes will get the $50,000 grand prize, while the second place school will get $25,000. If St. Margaret wins, the money will be used to buy new technology for classrooms from pre-K to 8th grade, Sanschagrin wrote.

Adults and children over age 13 can support the school by casting a vote each day by texting keyword "2329pbf" to the number 95248 or by visiting the contest site.

My daughter went to St. Margarets SChool for 11 yrs, they were not only the best days of her life ,they were mine as well. I always felt a sense of belonging in the Parish. St. Margarets is a Community in its self, always there for you and willing to give a helping hand. I hope they win because they surely deserve it! Debbie Brinkley

Sadly the school has drastically gone down hill since Principal, Jane Dean retired...

Jane Dean was a AWESOME principle, Lucky us we were the class of 2010 when she retired.

All schools should have updated technology. It's great for the kids and teachers.

Please show your support for our school and take a few seconds to vote for our school! Give our children a chance to win.

She was the heart of the school and lived & breathed SMS! We miss her sooooo much!

The picture that is posted is a picture of the Middle School, NOT the Parish Office. And SMS has not "gone downhill" since Jane Dean left. Susan Smith - if you don't like it there that much, then send your kid somewhere else. We don't need you or your negativity!

I think you just topped her negativity with your own choice of words. You represent a Catholic school. You represent the faith. Think of the words Jesus would have used.

Go SMS! I just texted a vote for you, it was so easy. Took half a second. I hope the whole county comes out to support you.

I have been a parent at St. Margaret School for the last 15 years and absolutely do not support Susan Smith's negative comment. The school is as strong as ever and a wonderful place for all the students. Good luck St. Margarets, and I hope you win the contest. The school definitely deserves it!
